Question:
A few months ago I phoned my REALTOR’S® office, and I was informed she was in a seminar for most of the day. My request was not urgent so I called her the next day and got the information I needed. My question is regarding this seminar that she was taking, the person who answered said Barb was in the CPD course. I never thought to ask her what this was but I read last week’s column and it reminded me of this. What is the CPD course?

Allison

Answer:
Dear Allison

Thank you for your inquiry. CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development and is the education course that all Saskatchewan real estate registrants are required to complete yearly, in order to remain registered (licensed) to trade in real estate.

Some years ago, the Saskatchewan Real Estate Association (REALTORS®) and the Saskatchewan Real Estate Commission (the licensing body) took a serious look at the changes in the industry and the few opportunities available to registrants to learn about these changes.. They determined that a yearly mandatory update, tied to licensing renewals, would be a good vehicle to advance the skills and expertise of registrants to enhance consumer protection.

The real estate industry is continually changing and evolving, and the CPD course keeps REALTORS® current with the law, legislation, practices and requirements that directly or indirectly impact on consumers in the trade of real estate.

REALTORS® were a directing force in the’ mandatory’ aspect of the course. This is another example of the professionalism that REALTORS® are promoting in working with the public. As someone who uses a REALTOR®, it should give you confidence to know that your REALTOR® is keeping up with the changing times.

I hope Allison that this answers your question.
